Three Memorable Years of Growth, Sports and Opportunity in Fiji

Three years ago, our family made the move to Fiji, not knowing just how much this journey would shape our children's lives. Today, as we prepare for the next chapter, we look back with gratitude on the incredible opportunities and experiences that Fiji has provided for Sophia and Aken.

During their time at Nasinu Primary School, both children were given the opportunity to participate in the Nasinu Primary School Sports Championships, representing their school in Under-12 and Under-14 soccer competitions. From the very beginning, their teachers and coaches recognized their skills and potential, encouraging them to take part in school and zone competitions.

Sports have been much more than just games. They have helped build confidence, discipline, teamwork, and resilience. They have taught valuable life lessons and created friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Through every training session, competition, victory, and challenge, Sophia and Aken have grown both as athletes and as young individuals.

One thing that has stood out throughout our time in Fiji is the country's commitment to nurturing young talent. Fiji places great value on youth development, providing children with opportunities to discover their abilities, pursue their passions, and build a strong foundation for their future. It is inspiring to see schools and communities invest so much in helping children reach their potential.

We are deeply grateful to the Nasinu Sports Team and Nasinu Primary School for believing in our children. Thank you for recognizing their abilities, supporting their growth, and giving them the opportunity to proudly represent their school and the Nasinu Zone over the past three years.

One moment that will always stay with me happened when we were our way home after the competition. Aken shared that some of his teammates had said that if they returned to Vanuatu, they would encourage younger boys to come and study in Fiji so they could join their team. It was a sweet and innocent comment that reflected the strong friendships and sense of belonging they had built together. I gently explained that young boys cannot simply come on their own—they must travel with their parents—but his words reminded me just how meaningful these experiences have been for him.

As our family's time in Fiji comes to an end, our hearts are full of appreciation. Fiji has given our children opportunities, encouragement, friendships, and unforgettable memories that they will carry with them wherever they go.

To make this farewell even more special, Sophia was featured in the edition of the Fiji Times newspaper—a wonderful recognition and a fitting way to conclude three remarkable years of representing Nasinu Primary School and the Nasinu Zone in sports championships and competitions.
