The Vanuatu community and Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) workers in the Nelson Tasman region are coming together in preparation for Vanuatu's Independence Day celebration. More than 5 orchards have decided to celebrate together.
Living far from home can be challenging, but community gatherings like this play an important role in keeping people connected to their culture, language, and traditions. The celebration provide an opportunity for ni-Vanuatu living and working in New Zealand to strengthen friendships, support one another, and share a sense of belonging.
Community leaders say that coming together is especially important for those living abroad, as it helps maintain cultural identity and promotes wellbeing. It also allows younger generations and newcomers to learn more about Vanuatu's history, values, and the significance of independence.
As preparations continue, the Nelson Tasman Vanuatu community looks forward to celebrating not only the nation's independence but also the unity, resilience, and spirit that connect ni-Vanuatu wherever they may be in the world.
Vanuatu celebrates independence day on 30th July every year. Independence Celebration for Nelson Tasman Region this year will be at the Motueka Recreation Centre. There will be a flag raising ceremony, Official speech , cake cutting, refreshments for everyone, sports activities and more.
